Comerica's Efforts In Sustainability Recognized With 2018 Climate Leadership Award

DALLAS, March 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Comerica is honored to receive a 2018 Climate Leadership Award for Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management. The Climate Leadership Awards took place during the recent Climate Leadership Conference, which brought together forward-thinking leaders from business, government, academia, and the non-profit community to address climate change through policy, innovation, and business solutions. Specifically, Comerica was recognized with a Goal Achievement Award for exceeding its second-generation greenhouse gas reduction goal and in doing so, reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) by more than 20 percent ahead of a target date of 2020.

The Climate Leadership Awards is a national program that recognizes exemplary corporate, organizational and individual leadership in response to climate change. The US EPA was a founding partner and sponsor of the awards program from 2012 until August 2017.

"The Climate Registry applauds Comerica for their outstanding dedication to climate action," said Ann McCabe, interim executive director of The Climate Registry (TRC). "Comerica is part of an incredibly important group of leaders who are accelerating the shift to a more sustainable future. We hope that their ability to bring about change will inspire and empower others to act."

By showcasing and recognizing voluntary action on climate and energy, award sponsors Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) and TCR are sending a strong signal that innovative and sustainable leadership in reducing GHG emissions and enhancing resilience are critical to addressing climate change.

"We are honored to receive this award for the early achievement of our second GHG reduction goal," said Scott Beckerman, senior vice president and director of Corporate Sustainability at Comerica. "We are in the business of helping people and businesses be successful. That success is facilitated by sustained access to a healthy environment and the social and human resources provided by vibrant communities. Our commitment to reducing our GHG emissions is just another way we seek to raise expectations about what a bank can be by working to protect the environment and, in turn, the communities in which we live and do business."

"Operating more efficiently by reducing Comerica's environmental footprint is in line with our culture of collaboration, integrity and excellence," said Ralph W. Babb, Jr., Comerica's chairman and chief executive officer. "Recognition as a climate leader reflects our ongoing commitment to reduce our impact on the environment and is a part of how we operate as a responsible business."

"While we've achieved our goal, we will continue to work to further decrease our energy usage and associated GHG emissions," said Amy Pillivant, senior vice president and Comerica's real estate and security director. "Additional projects such as advanced building controls and high efficiency lighting are being completed and we look forward to seeing the additional GHG reductions those projects will achieve."
