SBA Names Enrique Carrillo 'Michigan Minority Small Business Champion of the Year'

DETROIT/May 2, 2005 - Enrique Carrillo, a vice president at Comerica who heads the banking company’s Hispanic Initiative in Michigan, has been named "Michigan Minority Small Business Champion of the Year" by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Carrillo and others were recognized at the first-ever "Michigan Celebrates Small Business" event, held April 28, 2005, at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing, Mich.

The inaugural event was sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Small Business Association of Michigan, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Center.

"I am honored to accept this award, which really recognizes the work of many people who value minority business development and growth in our state," said Carrillo, a representative of Comerica’s Corporate Public Affairs Department. "I couldn’t have accomplished what I have without the involvement and support of Comerica and other companies that realize the importance of being good corporate citizens."

Carrillo was honored, in part, for his leadership as chairman of the 2004 Hispanic Business Expo & Economic Summit, an event of the Hispanic Business Alliance that attracted some 900 attendees and more than $100,000 in sponsorships. Carrillo also is chairing the 2005 Hispanic Business Expo & Economic Summit, to be held September 27-29, 2005, at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center.
