SAN JOSE/April 1, 2004-In 2003, Comerica Bank's Western Division gave more than $3 million in contributions and community sponsorship. More than $2.3 million of this amount - or 77 percent - benefited low and moderate-income community programs.
"Comerica prides itself in being a good corporate citizen in the markets we serve," said Mike Fulton, president and CEO of Comerica Bank's Western Division. "We believe that through our dollar giving and employee volunteerism, we made a difference in 2003."
Some of the major contributions the bank made in 2003 included:
- In Northern California, 17 organizations were granted $520,000. The organizations serve low andmoderate-income individuals; micro and small businesses; and minority, women and disabled-owned businesses.
- In Southern California, $382,500 was granted to 15 community organizations that assisted the low to moderate-income population.
The year 2003 also focused on education, with a total of $600,000 granted by Comerica Bank to scholarship programs in Northern and Southern California. Two of the largest scholarships, for $50,000 each, were awarded to two foundations that provide assistance to low and moderate-income Latino students to help further their academic goals.
