DETROIT, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Comerica Bank's Rochester-Avon banking center, located at 923 Rochester Road in Rochester Hills, MI, is now piloting voice-guidance ATMs for the visually impaired. A second voice-guidance ATM will be piloted at Comerica's free-standing ATM located in a Kroger store at South Blvd. and Squirrel in Rochester later this month.

With the voice-guidance ATMs, customers simply plug a standard set of headphones into the ATM's headphone jack to hear instructions in English or Spanish. Comerica worked with representatives from Leader Dogs for the Blind to make the new ATMs as "user friendly" as possible for the visually impaired. Instructions will be provided for any ATM transaction being conducted, such as a deposit, withdrawal, balance inquiry or payment.

"Leader Dog students tested these new machines and were amazed at their ease of use," explained Phil Griffin, an instructor at Leader Dogs for the Blind. "They are very excited about this new opportunity and look forward to using the ATMs." Griffin is excited to see a corporation such as Comerica taking a proactive interest in making their services more accessible to persons with disabilities. "It shows just how customer service oriented they really are," he adds.

"As we open new offices in 2007, we plan to install voice-guidance in most of the ATMs at those banking centers," notes Barbara Tardiff, vice president of self-service banking for Comerica. "We also will be re-engineering select existing ATMs to add voice-guidance.

Comerica has two new banking centers slated to open in the first quarter 2007 -- Pontiac Trail-11 Mile banking center in South Lyon and Rochester- Tienken in Auburn Hills. Both locations will have the voice-guidance ATMs.

In Michigan, Comerica Bank has 240 banking centers and 379 ATMs in metropolitan Detroit, Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Midland and Muskegon. Comerica Bank is a subsidiary of Comerica Incorporated (NYSE: CMA), a financial services company headquartered in Detroit and strategically aligned by three business segments: The Business Bank, The Retail Bank, and Wealth & Institutional Management.
