DALLAS/Jan. 15, 2009 – Irvin Ashford Jr., vice president of Public Affairs, and director, Community Development and External Affairs for Comerica Bank-Texas Market, has been named a recipient of the 2009 C.A.W. Clark Human Relations Award presented by the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance (IMA) of Greater Dallas. Ashford will accept his award at IMA’s 44th annual Human Relations Banquet on Feb. 6 at the Dallas Trade Center.
This signature award is presented to an exemplary civic, business or religious leader. The award is named after the late C.A.W. Clark, pastor of Dallas’ Good Street Baptist Church since 1959, who died in the summer of 2008.
“I am honored to receive this award,” Ashford said. “Rev. Clark was a leader, visionary and inspiration as he led the efforts to open day-care centers, a credit union, low-income housing and a legal clinic for his parishioners. He touched and continues to touch many lives.”
Ashford joined Comerica Bank in 2000. He serves on the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau board of directors and the Plan Fund board. He recently was elected to the Dallas affiliate board of Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. In 2008, the Dallas Business Journal honored Ashford with its Business Leader Award, and he received the 2008 Southern Dallas Development Corp.’s President’s Award.
In addition, Ashford is a Woodrow Wilson International Studies and Public Policy Fellow, a British-American Project Fellow and American Marshall Fellow.
Ashford is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. He has dual master’s degrees – one in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin and one in business administration from the University of Dallas.
