Comerica Bank Commemorates First LEED Certified Banking Center in Austin Market
LEED Certified 35th-Jefferson Banking Center is 10th Full-Service Office in Austin Market

AUSTIN, TX/April 7, 2010 – Comerica Bank today dedicated its first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) facility in the Austin Market, the 35th-Jefferson Banking Center, located at 1701 W. 35th Street. With the addition of this environmentally friendly building, Comerica now operates a total of ten full-service banking centers in its Austin market.

The LEED Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

“Sustainability as a business practice is one of our core commitments at Comerica Bank,” said Connie Beck, Executive Vice President of the Retail Bank, Comerica Incorporated. “We have a responsibility to design, construct and operate eco-friendly facilities that promote a healthier environment for our colleagues, our customers, our community and our planet.

“Families, businesses and city leaders tend to take green living and sustainability to heart here in Austin, and that’s a way of life we’re very proud of,” said Tim Klitch, Comerica’s Austin-Market President. “Comerica’s 35th-Jefferson Banking Center efficiently utilizes our natural resources and makes a positive, sustainable impact on our city and our region, attributes that stand to benefit our long-term quality of life.”

The LEED certification of Comerica’s 35th-Jefferson Banking Center was based on a number of green design and construction features, including:
• Environmentally friendly concrete instead of asphalt to reduce heat absorption
• An on-site recycling center for use by customers and employees
• High efficiency plumbing fixtures and a special drip irrigation system designed to decrease landscape watering needs by 50 percent
• Use of special paints, sealants, and carpeting to promote an environmentally friendly and healthy workplace
• Special roof material and design, continuous building insulation and high-performance glass to decrease electricity use and greenhouse gas emissions

Since the formal launch of Comerica’s Corporate Sustainability Program in 2008, Comerica now operates a total of 4 LEED banking centers across its footprint. Recently, Comerica was ranked Number One among S&P 500 companies for the quality of its 2009 response to the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) annual survey. For the second year in a row, Comerica was named to the CDP’s Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, which rates firms according to the level and quality of their disclosure and reporting on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategy data.
