Close to 1,200 Valley Residents Shred Their Sensitive Documents, Hunger During Shred Day Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz., Nov. 13, 2019 - Comerica Bank hosted its sixth annual Shred Day Phoenix event in partnership with Iron Mountain along with the support of the Phoenix Police Department and St. Mary’s Food Bank on Saturday, Nov. 9 in front of Comerica Theatre. At the event, Iron Mountain shredded 154,460 pounds of sensitive paper documents at no cost to the 1,170 cars that drove through the Shred Day Phoenix lanes. All paper was securely destroyed and will later be recycled and turned into pulp.

The Valley community also helped shred hunger at the event, donating 6,296 lbs. of nonperishable food items and $11,136, including a $5,000 contribution from Comerica, to St. Mary’s Food Bank (84,221 meals). Comerica Bank and St. Mary’s volunteers collected the second-highest food donations in event history (2015: 8,030 lbs – almost 400 more cars that year).

Comerica also made a $2,500 contribution to the Phoenix Police Foundation for its continued support and assistance with executing the event.

Since the inception of Shred Day Phoenix in 2014, Comerica Bank and Iron Mountain has collected more than 716,000 pounds of paper for recycling, while providing close to 465,000 meals for Phoenix area residents served by St. Mary’s Food Bank.

Shred Day, a Comerica signature community event also held in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Detroit and Houston markets, has played an integral role in the bank’s corporate sustainability initiative. Earlier this year, Corporate Knights ranked Comerica, the top-rated U.S. bank, No. 40 on its Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations list.
